Spring is a season for new beginnings and a great time to freshen your outlook on life. The weather is warming up in the lead up to Summer, although the thermometer keeps dropping more than it is rising at the moment. But I will not be stopped as I set myself a challenge.
Wear no black in September!
I love black. It is my main base colour in winter, but it can so easily become the go-to colour and getting dressed can become, well, a little less creative. I have so much colour in my closet and Spring is the perfect time to let it blossom. So from the 1st of September to 30 September I kept to the challenge. Unbelievably, my mood lifted, and I did truly get a spring in my step. I loved the creative push it gave to me daily and I found I didn’t miss the black too much. Watch out for the explosion of colour coming your way.
Start with the brights – Red, fuchsia and orange!
Add some stripes.
Then the blues.
Tone it down.
Finish with white.
September was not an idle month. These outfits reflect my lifestyle needs. To give you an insight here are some of my activities for the month: styling clients, de-cluttering wardrobes, styling at a charity event, doing art activities with kids, heading to weekend markets, grocery shopping, kids pick-up & drop-offs, parent teacher nights, lunching with friends, book-club, client meetings, volunteering at a school, working at home, a brief holiday sojourn to Noosa. Probably all the stuff you get up to.
It is essential to understand your lifestyle needs before adding new pieces to your wardrobe. Daily dressing should be easy with a little bit of fun. Do you dare to take on the no black clothes challenge for yourself? Make it easy for yourself by putting all your black clothes up one end of your wardrobe. I then selected all the items I would wear for the month and they hung at the other end so it was easy to make my selections daily.
Have a go – it might add a spark to your day. Let me know how you go in the comments section below & if you post onto instagram use #noblackclotheschallenge so I can find you easily.
Enjoy your colourful week.
